The Bridge
By: Maxine M

Cars, trucks & buses, all in a hurry, kept mid-day traffic flowing
Bumper to bumper, passing here and there...remember, right lane is for slowing
The winds of disaster, none realized were silently blowing

Then, the unthinkable happens!! The bridge collapses without warning
Rescue workers and bystanders, quickly to the scene are swarming
Many victims are pulled from the river...other families are left mourning

The nation watched on television, all were in shock & disbelief
Phone calls were made...a simple "hello" never brought such relief
How could such a thing happen?! Did neglect bring about this grief?

The bridge's pillars had been set deep in the river below
But time, weight & stress had made cracks begin to show
Loss of strength had gone undetected, reinforcement would have been the way to go

Bridge inspections increased all across America's homeland
To see for certain just how long these, also, could safely stand
Would they survive the strain & pressure years of use can demand?

Without much thought, we all cross bridges nearly everyday
A Bridge: that which lifts you up--carries you across whatever deters your way
Then rivers, streams, creeks, gorges or ravines are navigated without delay

In our individual lives, there are "GAPS" we must bridge as well
To cross from the CERTAIN to the unknown, all those "life" situations in which we dwell
Now every bridge needs SECURE pylons, not only to LAST but to EXCELL

Bridges take us from here to there, but also BACK again the other way
So be careful a bridge isn't BURNT by actions or the words we say!
Because life is ever changing, on which side do we need to stay?

Let us examine ourselves to see if "footings" are still secure
That our primary pillars of LOVE and FAITH...will a lifetime endure
That their strength & integrity are unimpaired...is the composition pure?

Life's highway is difficult...can not simply be set on "cruise"
ESSENTIAL is the rock solid pillar of HOPE...supports the bridge we daily use
By DILIGENCE...feelings of dispair, frustration, hopelessness...we can diffuse

Friends, family, fellow believers...all part of the SUPPORT structure we NEED
Those pillars of confidence and encouragement are needed to succeed
The pillar of the knowledge that, from sin's judgement, we've been freed

Because our Saviour died on the cross, as was the Father's predetermined plan
His OUTSTRETCHED ARMS formed a bridge between God and sinful fallen man
Time and eternity will only confirm the "soundness" of this Holy span

So, as we travel life's peaks and valleys, dangerous twists or unseen turn
Set your course with STEADFASTNESS, because this we should learn...
We CAN trust THIS BRIDGE to get us to the destination for which we yearn

GOT TROUBLES? by Maxine M. We read of tragedies in the paper, see them on tv every day We're shocked and saddened, but soon just go on our way We may send a comforting message, really not knowing what to say But then!! As is inevitable, a crisis strikes us or our loved one In panic we ask "why"? Who can help? What can be done? Now there's no putting it out of mind, there's no place to run When YOU get the call in the middle of the night When YOUR doctor says "I'm sorry, this report shows something is not right" When YOUR job is lost, it was Your house that burned...what a fright Then trouble becomes personal, there's no room for apathy Our desire is..Of this pain, sorrow, grief... to be set free! But, knowing WHERE to turn, that's the vital key Counselors, doctors, and medicine can only help to a certain degree Support from friends & family is wonderful we all agree But when all is "said and done"; Dear Lord, it's just You a...
Hope vs. Certainty by: Maxine M Hope: Webster defines as the feeling of what we want will happen, our desire we'll see Also as the person or thing from which this expectation will come to be Now each person's hope varies to an individual degree Certainty: fixed, settled, sure, positive....that which we can not doubt Thy Word, oh Lord, forever settled in Heaven!!, a certainty we can shout North is always north, truth is always true...not matter what else comes about Mary and Martha HOPED Jesus would come, so brother Lazarus wouldn't have to die Disappointed & let down...tears of sorrow they would cry But the CERTAINTY was, Jesus IS the Lord of Life, death's victory He could deny The disciples HOPED the Messiah would free them from Roman domination, in their day That Israel would be exaulted...all enemies made to pay The CERTAINTY was, He came to free us from sin, Salvation had just come their way David clung to HOPE, that God would relent...his child He would spare...
Milk and Meat By: Maxine A baby’s distressed wail fills the night…“I’m hungry” is what is meant For newborns WANT & NEED milk to keep them happy & content Milk!! Nature’s perfect food, promoting growth & development…good health will represent But then as time goes on, solid foods are introduced, much to their delight Cereals & mashed vegetables to help a baby sleep through the night Then finally MEAT as their digestive system develops, acquiring strength & might Now, the bible states that as Christians, we move from “milk” to “meat” as we mature & grow Remember!!, how verses like John 3:16, in our “infancy”, made our faces glow That 1st realization that GOD LOVES US…the greatest love we’ll ever know Beautiful psalms soothed our spirit, chased away fear, brought His presence near As a parent quiets their child, we could feel His everlasting arms appear Promises of one day knowing He...
