Ouch!! That Hurts! By: Maxine M. Just another mountain with granite rock face…a wonder of nature as God decrees But this one rose above the rest, as grand and noble as you please Far below, a narrow road curved its way through ponderosa pine trees It had stood there for centuries, thought that’s ALL it would EVER be A common ordinary mountain…all geologists would agree Then one day a man climbed the mountain…breathed its clean air, fresh and free He looked, examined, pondered…soon called helpers to come & survey They studied, analyzed, consulted then the mountain heard the man say This spot has great possibility, truly ideal, think we can start in May So in early spring of 1927, the mountain felt this sudden “JOLT” in its side Ouch!! That hurts! What’s happening? You’re hurting me…it insistently cried Powerful blasts continued, machines sculpturing & carving…oh where can I hide? Rocks, earth, rubble all removed as d
THE UNKNOWN By: Maxine M. Ever stood in front of an unfamiliar door? What's on the other side? What does fate have in store? Or stand at a crossroad you MUST travel knowing you've never been this way before? Maybe alone on the ocean wondering where is the safety of the shore? Perhaps you've had your sense of calm flee when a nurse relays that doctor's report Those plans, dreams for the future will you have to abort? The "UNKNOWN" conjures up fearful images of every sort Have you suddenly lost a loved one...overcome with grief and shock? A close relationship dissolved? One you considered solid as a rock? Questions, uncertainty about the future abound? At your self-confidence they mock We're comfortable with ordinary, customary; reject change and an unpleasant surprise Unwelcomed are chaos, confusion, and calamity's cries "ROUTINE" is shattered when with the UNKNOWN we have to compromise Peter was familiar with WHERE to catch fish, but Jesu
The Waiting Jesus By: Maxine M. Nearly everyone has considered Jesus as a baby, the Holy Christ Child The obedient Son with a quiet gentle Spirit…meek and mild The full power of God, UNDER CONTROL in a human body compiled And the bible reveals Jesus as teacher, healer, brother and friend In the form of a servant, the Creator of the Universe had broken lives & bodies to mend He washed His disciple’s feet saying ‘from now on let THIS be YOUR trend’ He’s represented as the compassionate Shepherd holding a little lamb on His arm The benefactor of children and all their youthful qualities that charm Predicting WOE to anyone who would dare to harm We’ve seen Him become agitated & aggressive, but in RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION Seen weeping over Jerusalem and rejoicing with Mary & Martha in their elation At times He was the weary Jesus needing solitude, He also knew hunger’s gnawing sensation We’ve seen a praying Jesus, a stern warning
Check Your “Roots” By: Maxine M. Spring!! It’s just around the corner, pages on the calendar will show Dormant seeds & perennial bulbs soon will awaken and start to grow They’ve been “sleeping” under winter’s ice & cold snow Awaiting the time to be reborn by the sun’s warm penetrating rays Rejoicing in being resurrected from their inactive phase Now one of the FIRST will be a dandelion…its yellow head will raise In early spring, they are every child’s joyful energetic delight To pick them by the handful…a proud gift for their mother’s sight But in REALITY, they are an obnoxious common weed all gardeners have to fight Fight with constant battle since an immaculate unblemished lawn is their goal They exert hard work and vigilance to keep perfection under control Then seemingly without effort, OVERNIGHT the dandelion takes its toll Their brilliant beauty is short lived, turning white as they reproduce Hidden from view…und
