Ouch!! That Hurts!
By: Maxine M.

Just another mountain with granite rock face…a wonder of nature as God decrees
But this one rose above the rest, as grand and noble as you please
Far below, a narrow road curved its way through ponderosa pine trees

It had stood there for centuries, thought that’s ALL it would EVER be
A common ordinary mountain…all geologists would agree
Then one day a man climbed the mountain…breathed its clean air, fresh and free

He looked, examined, pondered…soon called helpers to come & survey
They studied, analyzed, consulted then the mountain heard the man say
This spot has great possibility, truly ideal, think we can start in May

So in early spring of 1927, the mountain felt this sudden “JOLT” in its side
Ouch!! That hurts! What’s happening? You’re hurting me…it insistently cried
Powerful blasts continued, machines sculpturing & carving…oh where can I hide?

Rocks, earth, rubble all removed as daily work progressed
Unheard were the mountain’s groans, its questions never addressed
“Time” stood still but the cliff was totally unaware of how it was being blessed

Then suddenly one day all the grinding, chiseling & blasting came to a stop
Soon all sorts of people were gazing up at this mountain’s top
For a thing of beauty had come about…emerging with each stressful chop

Yes!! This plain “old rock” had become one of America’s favorite shrines
Proud, magnificent, majestic, rising above the skyline & surrounding pines
A stately symbol of our Nation…as freedom & liberty it defines

The mountain rejoiced, knowing the suffering had been worth it all
Amazed the man had seen WHAT was inside that sheer granite wall
Now, in the light of its wonder, the PAIN of sculpturing seemed very small

Like Mt. Rushmore our lives hold a hidden potential only the Creator knows
For it takes “Masterful” hands to SCULPT a spirit before its true beauty shows
He removes the “time worn” rough exterior, molding the inner-person till it glows

There’s a chipping away of those unnecessary qualities we hold so tight
A grinding of stubborn areas till they are gleaming bright
Trimming & paring of prejudice, hatred, bias…the whole time lamenting our plight

Do we have habits, attitudes that require a full “dynamite blast”?
Is a rearrangement of priorities or a softening of a heart in the forecast?
Does “Ouch, Lord, that hurts” roll off our tongue as these “remaking” days fly past?

Now the Master RESHAPES through trouble, distress…all those problems we hate so much
Then SANDS with a pumice of humility, disappointment and such
Chisels away at anger, pride, immorality…and like the mountain, we BEMOAN this painful touch

We too are often UNAWARE of the NEW REDEEMED person He desires to bring about
We MISUNDERSTAND His sculpturing…in our humanity, we pout
But ONE day we’ll see what He sees…HALLELUJAH Shout!!

Now this REBUILDING of our inner being will continue until HIS likeness we display
But PERFECTION won’t be achieved till we rise on our resurrection day
Finally dressed in Incorruption & Immortality, ready for our Heavenly STAY

Mother's Day by: Maxine M. (this is cute) Our first parents lived in a paradise of ease Their original days were without toil, doing as they pleased Enjoying God's garden of bountiful, fruitful trees There was nothing to fear, as all the animals were tame As they came one by one for Adam to name The perfect marriage, there was no one else to blame The ideal life, but one thing they both never knew Was the loving touch of a Mother, as not from childhood they grew Of that special bond from child to Mother, they had no clue A Mother hadn't warned, "Don't talk to that snake" "He's not what he seems, he's a phony and a fake" "If you listen to him, it will bring sorrow and heartache" So Eve raised her children without Mother's advice Labor pains and discomfort were disobedience's price A Mother certainly would have made her think twice When the question "why do it this way?" came around She couldn't reply, "It...
WHAT DID JESUS SEE? by Maxine M. The world saw Peter as an unlearned fisherman, nothing special at all Simply mending his nets, hoping today would yield a big haul BUT what did Jesus see? He saw the one whom He'd call "The Rock" The one to found His Church, the leader of His flock The world saw Levi as a dreaded tax collector Lowest of the low, a traitor, considered a Roman defector BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Matthew with a loyal heart, faithful and true Knew he would be useful in the ministry he was to do The world saw the Pharisees as superior, righteous, ceremoniously clean Loving to stand in public, praying just to be seen BUT what did Jesus see? He saw them as hypocrites, fools, blind guides Saw them as well-polished tombs, but inside rottenness hides The world saw Saul as an enthusiastic, young Pharisee filled with zeal Persecuting new Christians, their newly found joy to steal BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Paul, a specially chosen vessel, a sinne...
Childlike Faith By: Maxine M. A short time ago, a long-time politician was laid to rest The last of the patriotic brothers…in America, their lives they’d invest People lined the streets expressing grief, paying tribute & honor with considerable zest A crowd gathered on the Capital’s steps engrossed in this somber affair But did you notice the small children quietly playing without a care? Just having fun, making faces at each other while parents were unaware Wiggling & anxious to be on with life…shed those “good” clothes that must stay clean Unconcerned what “Teddy’s” passing would bring to the political scene Confident & trusting their parents would keep life safe & serene For children are children in spite of color, nationality or religious creed Where prejudice hasn’t been formed, childlike acceptance will intercede They’re refreshingly innocent…not yet carrying our burden of ‘will I succeed’ T...
