And the Winner Is….?
By: Maxine M.

Every day the battle rages…two dispositions struggle to gain the upper hand
Yes, a war of dominance between the carnal nature & a righteous spirit…which will take the winner’s stand
Can the “GOOD” we want so much to do, overcome the power “SELF” can demand?

A few malignant cells can eventually destroy all the healthy ones they surround
And a red sock has the ability to turn a white one pink…not the other way around
Good, clean, fresh country air can “reek” when an angry skunk is south bound

Ever buy a big bag of apples you thought were all crisp, juicy & sweet
But there, in the middle, is a spoiled one unfit to eat
Spreading its decay to those near-by…never do the good make the bad complete

Planning on making cookies only to find the brown sugar HARD…what to do?
Remember mother’s trick? Seal it tight with a piece of bread…soon will be good as new
Moisture from the bread transfers to the sugar, BUT leaves the bread dry & stale…isn’t that true?

Let an impressionable child hang out with one inclined to rebel
Over a given period of time, will the good or bad qualities excel?
The Bible states bad company corrupts good character in children & adults as well

Send a firmly committed Christian man to Congress…will his perspective change?
Will he compromise his convictions being among those who think MORALS are strange?
Which influence will triumph? Whose priorities will this life rearrange?

Often, well known religious leaders lose focus if loss of POPULARITY they fear
They adopt a “feel-good” message for which the world is very eager to hear
Declaring we must TOLERATE all religions…preach peace, prosperity & cheer

Insinuating the Bible isn’t ENTIRELY true or just not relevant in our day
And that God will accept all “GOOD” people…just keep the commands you CAN obey
Instead of reaffirming that Jesus’ death and resurrection is salvation’s ONLY WAY

So, what’s your battle plan? Which of your natures is winning the fight?
Are you standing your ground in a secular world…defending what’s right
Fighting media-bias, social injustice, perversion…perhaps your Senators you should write

Shouldn’t we speak out against MEDIOCRITY…the modern day church’s plight
Not allowing apathetic indifference to penetrate out spirit…like a vine withering bright
Are we choosing companions wisely…those sharing the same spiritual insight…

Those who are rapture ready…awaiting the coming day of the Lord
Whose hearts and minds are singing those old-time gospel songs in one accord
Avoiding those whose love has become luke-warm towards the ONE they once adored

Not allowing their influence to DULL our ability to be salt & light
Or let the world’s mess drag us down from Calvary’s saving height
Knowing if we keep our candles BURNING, TOGETHER we can enlighten the night

Our example is Jesus Himself, for He lived among carnality & hypocrisy and remained unaffected
Kept His mission and message PURE, knowing, after His death, He’d be resurrected
And His knowledge is also our pillar of strength…a high tower where we’re safe & protected

So keep your FOCUS on Him…KEEP it SHARP!!...even if you must stand alone
Guard against any invading forces determined to make THEIR values your own
Because on the day the trumpet sounds, the war will be over…our future in Christ set in stone

WHAT DID JESUS SEE? by Maxine M. The world saw Peter as an unlearned fisherman, nothing special at all Simply mending his nets, hoping today would yield a big haul BUT what did Jesus see? He saw the one whom He'd call "The Rock" The one to found His Church, the leader of His flock The world saw Levi as a dreaded tax collector Lowest of the low, a traitor, considered a Roman defector BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Matthew with a loyal heart, faithful and true Knew he would be useful in the ministry he was to do The world saw the Pharisees as superior, righteous, ceremoniously clean Loving to stand in public, praying just to be seen BUT what did Jesus see? He saw them as hypocrites, fools, blind guides Saw them as well-polished tombs, but inside rottenness hides The world saw Saul as an enthusiastic, young Pharisee filled with zeal Persecuting new Christians, their newly found joy to steal BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Paul, a specially chosen vessel, a sinne...
GOT TROUBLES? by Maxine M. We read of tragedies in the paper, see them on tv every day We're shocked and saddened, but soon just go on our way We may send a comforting message, really not knowing what to say But then!! As is inevitable, a crisis strikes us or our loved one In panic we ask "why"? Who can help? What can be done? Now there's no putting it out of mind, there's no place to run When YOU get the call in the middle of the night When YOUR doctor says "I'm sorry, this report shows something is not right" When YOUR job is lost, it was Your house that burned...what a fright Then trouble becomes personal, there's no room for apathy Our desire is..Of this pain, sorrow, grief... to be set free! But, knowing WHERE to turn, that's the vital key Counselors, doctors, and medicine can only help to a certain degree Support from friends & family is wonderful we all agree But when all is "said and done"; Dear Lord, it's just You a...
Have You Two Met? By: Maxine M. The Bible records how, on the Damascus Road, the risen Jesus MET the Pharisee Saul Stopping him in his zealous pursuit…blinded by the light, he heard the Saviour call Why!! are you persecuting Me by locking My servants in a prison stall Saul fell to the ground in astonishment & fear, retaining no strength at all “Who are You, Lord? What do You want ME to do?” he asked in trembling voice weak and small Oh, how that encounter altered his life…even changing his name to Paul The Bible also tells of Peter, who MET Jesus one day at his brother, Andrew’s request His nets were FILLED when fishing on the “RIGHT” side, as Jesus would suggest “I’ll make you a “Fisher of Men”, Peter, if your life, in ME you invest Oh, he had rough edges to smooth, words & instructions from the Lord to digest A change from what “I will do” to what the Holy Spirit said was best So from s...
