Before The Day Was Over
By: Maxine M.

He was a thief, a lowly criminal living in the shadows on the Jerusalem street
Now caught & condemned to die on a cross…ending his life in defeat
With SARCASTIC words, the Lord of Glory, he and is friend would greet
But before the day was over…
Amid his own pain & anguish and his own sinfulness, he would realize
This was “HOLINESS” suffering next to him!!...watching as the Son of Glory dies
Humbly asks, “Lord!! Remember me in your Kingdom!” thus gaining paradise…the ultimate prize
What CHANGE a day can bring!

The sun rose that morning as usual…the villagers still depressed and scared
German soldiers patrolled the streets joking, laughing, perhaps a cigarette shared
To cross their line…even the bravest among them didn’t dare
But before the day was over…
An allied army had put those same soldiers on he run
Liberation!! Freedom from the oppressed has finally begun
At the cost of many lives, a world war had been WON
Oh, the JOY a day can bring!

It was the biggest race of the season…excitement reigned supreme
It’s an honor just to start the race, but to WIN, that’s every racer’s dream
Drivers control the car, but “Victory Lane” takes the effects of a team
But before the day was over…
As the laps wound down & the crowd being elated one and all
A 7-time Champion would play defense…a first time winner they would install
But sadly, the biggest name in racing would DIE there on Daytona’s 4th turn wall
Oh, the SORROW a day can bring!

She had vanished from her bedroom…they searched for months without a trace
Someone had been there, but the sister couldn’t recall the face
One morning the mother said “Left are only tiny shreds of hope to embrace”
But before the day was over…
The daughter they had loved & sought for had been found ALIVE!!
Now revealed was the plan this wicked evil man had contrived
Only by God’s wonderful Grace had this girl survived
Oh, the JOY a day can bring!

After grieving the loss of his brother, a political life he would resume
A brilliant young lawyer, “Attorney General”…career in full bloom
And after the fall election he’d be president…it could be assumed
But before the day was over…
Life’s game of chance had been lost…cards against him had been stacked
His life and career had vanished in another assassin’s attack
We’re left with “what ifs” “what might have been”…wishing we could call that bullet back
Oh, what SORROW a day can bring!

The bills are MOUNTING, the car needs gas…oh what can I do?
Life is weighing me down…any real options are few
The rumor afloat is the company may close…so worry and anxiety grew and grew
But before the day was over…
I half-heartedly checked the lotto numbers….couldn’t believe my eyes
Every number matched—“WE WON!! We won!!” the family excitedly cries
We had ACTUALLY WON after all those fruitless tries
Oh, the JOY a day CAN bring!

How will we handle “today’s” surprises, those we never thought we’d share
Will they bring despair or jubilation to ourselves or to someone for whom we care
For the question isn’t “what will happen before the day is over”…it’s HOW do we prepare
Are you prepared today?
Prepared each day by being alone with the Master, preparing your inner core
Thus “readied” for any SITUATION that today may have in store
By putting each day in the Lord’s hands…His will for the day confidently explore

For He’s the one who DOES KNOW what today or tomorrow will be
Faith says “trust His plan” even when only uncertainty we see
BE NOT AFRAID…fully LIVE each day…live “EXPECTANTLY”
TRUST HIM before this day is over…
Learn by example what JOY & SORROW any given day can bring
That it can be mournful lyrics or songs of praise at day’s end we sing
And, BEFORE THE DAY IS OVER we COULD be in the arms of Christ our KING!!

Judy,
I thought I'd drop by this morning, and ask how things were going with you, and your family.

Another wonderful poem from your Mom! And she's right. 24 hours can make a huge difference. So never give up hope, amen?

Love,
Marge

Mother's Day by: Maxine M. (this is cute) Our first parents lived in a paradise of ease Their original days were without toil, doing as they pleased Enjoying God's garden of bountiful, fruitful trees There was nothing to fear, as all the animals were tame As they came one by one for Adam to name The perfect marriage, there was no one else to blame The ideal life, but one thing they both never knew Was the loving touch of a Mother, as not from childhood they grew Of that special bond from child to Mother, they had no clue A Mother hadn't warned, "Don't talk to that snake" "He's not what he seems, he's a phony and a fake" "If you listen to him, it will bring sorrow and heartache" So Eve raised her children without Mother's advice Labor pains and discomfort were disobedience's price A Mother certainly would have made her think twice When the question "why do it this way?" came around She couldn't reply, "It...
WHAT DID JESUS SEE? by Maxine M. The world saw Peter as an unlearned fisherman, nothing special at all Simply mending his nets, hoping today would yield a big haul BUT what did Jesus see? He saw the one whom He'd call "The Rock" The one to found His Church, the leader of His flock The world saw Levi as a dreaded tax collector Lowest of the low, a traitor, considered a Roman defector BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Matthew with a loyal heart, faithful and true Knew he would be useful in the ministry he was to do The world saw the Pharisees as superior, righteous, ceremoniously clean Loving to stand in public, praying just to be seen BUT what did Jesus see? He saw them as hypocrites, fools, blind guides Saw them as well-polished tombs, but inside rottenness hides The world saw Saul as an enthusiastic, young Pharisee filled with zeal Persecuting new Christians, their newly found joy to steal BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Paul, a specially chosen vessel, a sinne...
Childlike Faith By: Maxine M. A short time ago, a long-time politician was laid to rest The last of the patriotic brothers…in America, their lives they’d invest People lined the streets expressing grief, paying tribute & honor with considerable zest A crowd gathered on the Capital’s steps engrossed in this somber affair But did you notice the small children quietly playing without a care? Just having fun, making faces at each other while parents were unaware Wiggling & anxious to be on with life…shed those “good” clothes that must stay clean Unconcerned what “Teddy’s” passing would bring to the political scene Confident & trusting their parents would keep life safe & serene For children are children in spite of color, nationality or religious creed Where prejudice hasn’t been formed, childlike acceptance will intercede They’re refreshingly innocent…not yet carrying our burden of ‘will I succeed’ T...
