New Duds
By: Maxine M.

Does anything perk us up like a new outfit…no matter the time of year?
As a child at the school program, in your very “best” you wanted to appear
Perhaps in a blue velvet dress trimmed in white lace…how could you not feel the Christmas cheer?

Even as an adult, doesn’t it feel good just to get all “DRESSED UP”?
A beautiful gown, a suit with “tails”…a mundane & ordinary day will interrupt
It lifts our spirits, at least temporarily…self-confidence will erupt

Clothing stores “doll-up” their windows HOPING something will catch our eye
Something we can’t live without…surely this, to our credit balance we can apply
Or perhaps that fancy sweater or jacket as a gift for another we’ll buy

Brides dream of the fancy dress they’ll wear on their wedding day
It’s so expensive!! “But, daddy, won’t you please help me pay?”
That groom never looked as “GOOD” either in a tux of black, white or gray

Athletes are easily IDENTIFIED by the team uniform they wear
When “Dancing with the Stars”, performance is enhanced by a costume with style & flair
So you see how our apparel can define us…who we are, simply declare

Now, many people like to “wear” their “good deeds” for all the world to see
But God proclaims OUR OWN righteousness is as FILTHY rags…unsightly as can be
For nothing spoils a fancy outfit like spots & stains, don’t you agree?

And since ALL have sinned and sin leaves a HIDEOUS stain
Our parading around TRYING to look pure & innocent is all in vain
For that pure INNER garment of Salvation, only through Christ, can anyone obtain

As soon as we accept Jesus as Saviour & Lord, the Father says “Take that filthy garment away”
Cloth them in a rich robe…let it be done to all who believe and obey
And a breastplate of righteousness to guard our heart from Satan’s arrows everyday

A belt of truth around the waist will guide from going astray
And “put-on” love and charity as an essential part of our “armor” of light…DO NOT DELAY
ACCESSORIZE with hope, trust, humility…oh, what a dazzling display!

Now these “NEW DUDS” are SPIRITUAL, though invisible to some degree
They give those who wear them a wonderful feeling…uplifting and free
Leaving those around them wondering “what’s their secret…what’s the key?”

The time WILL come when the spiritual robe will become LITERAL…clean and white
Pure gleaming linen never to be stained…oh what a GLORIOUS sight!
When the redeemed body reunites with their soul in Heaven’s wondrous light

Experience that “DRESSED UP” feeling with our Saviour forever where everything is RIGHT
All those “mysteries” we’ve pondered will all become perfect insight
And ALL this is possible because GOD became MAN one Holy night

Came to earth to guide, teach & direct, suffer and willingly die for YOU
Conquered death, grant Eternal life to those who ACCEPT His word as true
So won’t you today change your attire to robes only HE can make NEW?!

This would be an appropriate time as we start the year two thousand and nine
To be elegantly dressed and ready, confident in how your “new duds” will SHINE
So aren’t you EXCITED about a New Year and the BLESSINGS HE WILL assign?!

Mother's Day by: Maxine M. (this is cute) Our first parents lived in a paradise of ease Their original days were without toil, doing as they pleased Enjoying God's garden of bountiful, fruitful trees There was nothing to fear, as all the animals were tame As they came one by one for Adam to name The perfect marriage, there was no one else to blame The ideal life, but one thing they both never knew Was the loving touch of a Mother, as not from childhood they grew Of that special bond from child to Mother, they had no clue A Mother hadn't warned, "Don't talk to that snake" "He's not what he seems, he's a phony and a fake" "If you listen to him, it will bring sorrow and heartache" So Eve raised her children without Mother's advice Labor pains and discomfort were disobedience's price A Mother certainly would have made her think twice When the question "why do it this way?" came around She couldn't reply, "It...
WHAT DID JESUS SEE? by Maxine M. The world saw Peter as an unlearned fisherman, nothing special at all Simply mending his nets, hoping today would yield a big haul BUT what did Jesus see? He saw the one whom He'd call "The Rock" The one to found His Church, the leader of His flock The world saw Levi as a dreaded tax collector Lowest of the low, a traitor, considered a Roman defector BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Matthew with a loyal heart, faithful and true Knew he would be useful in the ministry he was to do The world saw the Pharisees as superior, righteous, ceremoniously clean Loving to stand in public, praying just to be seen BUT what did Jesus see? He saw them as hypocrites, fools, blind guides Saw them as well-polished tombs, but inside rottenness hides The world saw Saul as an enthusiastic, young Pharisee filled with zeal Persecuting new Christians, their newly found joy to steal BUT what did Jesus see? He saw him as Paul, a specially chosen vessel, a sinne...
Childlike Faith By: Maxine M. A short time ago, a long-time politician was laid to rest The last of the patriotic brothers…in America, their lives they’d invest People lined the streets expressing grief, paying tribute & honor with considerable zest A crowd gathered on the Capital’s steps engrossed in this somber affair But did you notice the small children quietly playing without a care? Just having fun, making faces at each other while parents were unaware Wiggling & anxious to be on with life…shed those “good” clothes that must stay clean Unconcerned what “Teddy’s” passing would bring to the political scene Confident & trusting their parents would keep life safe & serene For children are children in spite of color, nationality or religious creed Where prejudice hasn’t been formed, childlike acceptance will intercede They’re refreshingly innocent…not yet carrying our burden of ‘will I succeed’ T...
